HEAD OFFICE

AZIM CIGIL MANSION

HISTORICAL BACKGROUND Located between the historic artillery station in the Buyukdere district, where the Ottoman Empire hosted foreign representatives and officials, and the Hotel de Bellevue, one of the first hotels to open in 1840 as part of the modernisation trend, Azim Çiğil Mansion was built in Ottoman architecture. It is believed to be the mansion where the German pianist Franz Liszt, referred to in historical sources as the 'King of the Piano", stayed on his tour, giving a concert at the 'Hotel de Bellevue' on 18 June 1847 at the invitation of the Ottoman Sultan Abdulmecid Han, known as a lover of classical music. The mansion, which was damaged in the fire that also destroyed the Hotel de Bellevue, was rebuilt in 1901 by Ahmet Tevfik (Türegün) Efendi, the son of Kadi Ahmet Hilmi Efendi and one of the grandchildren of Minkarizade Şeyhülislam Yahya Efendi, Yahya Efendi, a graduate of the Civil Service University and the Law University, who also served as Governor of Istanbul (Governor) and was also a teacher of administrative law. The mansion, which had completed its useful life by the 1990s, was rebuilt in the 2000s by Melisa Çilkız Brownscombe, a lecturer in law in England. The mansion, whose construction was not completed, was bought and restored in 2021 by lawyer Azim Çiğil, giving it its current appearance.
